+AR on your gear does not affect your summons
shockwave ignores defense (but is blockable)

That said, AR is very important on the summons - you don't get many swings and want to make sure they hit.

Maxing spirit wolf boosts grizzly attack rating

Beast provides fanaticism (attack speed, damage, and attack rating)
