I've been pondering on the build myself, whether or not the extra def vs missile will help more than the lack of a bit of life and dr from the current setup. +350 def vs missile from shaft, then +100 def vs missile from cat's eye. This stacks onto the overall def rating of the character, but when lets say, ignore targets defense comes into play. this still provides +450 total def vs the missiles overall.
I myself have used the shaft setup, but haven't really questioned it's use since everyone switched to the current
unless you're letting throwbarbs on the ladder, missle def is irrelevant.

Put on a Swordback Hold Shield (50% Open Wounds)
Throw Lightning Bolt (Surpasses Block, hits as a spell ~ procs Open Wounds)
If the Sorc is not MB, use Swordback and Lacerator (for 33% more OW and 33% Amp proc)
Fire a few Guided Arrows and before they hit, switch and hold the Lacerator/Swordback out as the GA's hit
This will proc the OW and Amp damage when the GA hit
i know you're almost as illiterate as welterweight, but why would you give him advice on a setup vs. a non-mb sorc, when he specifically said mb sorc.
