Eh I could switch to blizzard with no ES and still have the same question. Fully expecting to lose to every BvC on this ladder cause I'm noob. Not cause of Sorb.
Just feel bad for the other melee's
You shouldn't necessarily lose.
The rule is in place to help barbs who cannot afford a ton of res sc's to be able to not instantly die to a self blizzing sorc.
A barb has no range, they have to be on you to hurt you.
A smart blizz will sit in blizz on a puddle and lure the barb in.
Blizz sorcs @ level 40 cold mastery = -230 resistances, hell dificulty = -100 res = total of -330 cold res
each res point over 0 = 1% less damage taken
10,000 blizz damage if a barb has 310 cold res total (Including anyas) he will be at -20 res when you hit him.
10,000 * 1/6 (Not exact but close to the pvp penalty) = 1,666.667 damage
1,666.667 * 120% damage = 2,000 damage per tick of blizz
- Remove the 40% absorb from 2 x raven = 1200 per tick
- Heals 800
- Actual damage 400
Now a barb with proper stack
405 cold res total
75% all res with 20% absorb
10,000 * 1/6 = 1,666.667 damage
- 75% from proper res = 416.92 damage per tick
- 20% from raven = 333.536 damage per tick
- Heals 83.384
- Actual damage - 250.152
Now this may have some minor flaws in exactly how the damage is applied in order, but it paints a pretty obvious picture that it is better to duel a dual raven 310 cold res bvc rather than a properly stacked bvc with one raven. Dual raven does not come close to the damage reduction proper res does.
/e I forgot to apply absorbs healing as well.
