Because some people click harder than others. Others hold button down longer. Combination of click hard and hold long is what makes a champion. All about index finger strength and cardio.

i mean, there's no technical skill, but it's more about the mix of community, building your perfect character, and the extensive knowledge of game mechanics needed to beat your opponent (how much AR, life, minimum damage, maximum damage, DS, CB, defense, FHR, & IAS do you need to kill your opponent before he kills you). It's really not as easy as many assume.

There's also no imports in d2r, and the entirety of d2r pvp is now at a "pay to win" stage, this is not just limited to melee (some of the most expensive items sold are fpk/caster stuff that has nothing to do with melee..)

It is very lame indeed. but there's multiple players in the D2R gm melee scene who do not spend $$ and are quite competitive with cookie-cutter builds, so they dont have to buy rare/crafted items for insane amounts. It's doable.
