If I may ask, if one were to consider rolling with a Vis (eth, self-rep, high-def), would you prefer a Conq or GCrown? I know there's a rather big difference in the Str req, and little difference in the overall defense, should two comparable, if not identical helms were used.
On West it's Conq Crown all day, especially given that they've got E.Z.Bugged AP Fort, East is pretty much bound to rolling with SA Fort, and subsequently, Jewels such as the 30/60/9/9 in the SS, and sometimes Helm as well, whereas a fairly common build is with a 30/60/9D/-15 in the SS on West with one additional point of Str for Conq Vis.
Hehe had the same dilemma since I played West relatively recently.
On west is conq all the way.
It's Guard here. Because we don't have the 2454 zbugs.
If you're going for the high def Eth reps you pretty much have to use sacred fort.
BUT I kinda have builds to try and i was thinking of a build using conq... I personally prefer conq because It can hit 720+ def if I can recall. That extra def isn't worth it if u can get more vita (186 str req Vs 174). You'd have to do the calculations and use a different type of Fort.
Pm me if u want we can discuss this more. I am/was considering this whole issue just recently.
Smart guy

Thank you for the insight. When I was East about a year or so ago, nearly every last Barb was rocking an Arreats, bugged, up'd, or reg eth + SA Fort. There were few Vis's it seemed, almost none, really. Even the top Barbs at the top were using the good ole Z.B. Arreats.
When I went West, around a few months ago, every Barb was rolling with the Z.B. AP Fort (2454 Def, iirc), and either a low Str +5 BO Vis, with virtually no def whatsoever, or a eth, self-rep, high-def, +5 BO, Vis, Conq Crown. There really were no other choices if you were/are a serious contender over there.
Then came the seemingly endless number of Jewels from which a player could pick to compliment the build. Oddly enough, on West, a popular Jewel (30/50/37 Def/ 7 Dex) was nearly always used in the SS, and about as often in the Vis, regardless of low or high def. To me, that choice of Jewel seemed weird due to the +def it had, but only when coupled with the super low defense Vis itself.
On East at the time, it was pretty much 30/60/9/9 or nothing, given the high Str req for SA Fort (also a must, iirc). Never heard of or saw a Barb, high-end or otherwise on the ladder with AP Fort.
Idk if that helps you understand my confusion any, but any additional input on the matter is greatly appreciated.
Yeah West uses a lot of Defense jewels and charms
I've noticed this.
East goes more for stat jewels.
Pm me man, you're going through the same thought process that I went through when I was figuring out my build.
Also it's true that East went on a sacred fort rampage and I was one of the last with zbug arreat and AP build. I finally caved in and went for sacred fort like everyone else but now I am using AP again. It's all about the challenge!

this is true, but ap builds have always been around just got more popular with barb circ stat vizos , ive always used 30/9/9/-15req in my ss but i was always 1 for the stat glitch. that with the circ make ap more viable, but arreat still rules east for the most part more flexible then a vizo(any kind) yes vizo gives u ar but there's other ways to get ar. but builds like mine ive only seen in the last few years-Besh is 1 of the 1st ppl i seen use circ on east and make it work
I actually used circlet the first time on west hehe.
Because I wanted a different build from all the Eth reps. It worked perfect for I was #1 there for about two months non stop.
Also drew u don't have to use - req SS that's wrong
