yep. has to at least hold the spot once not just gain it...

before how it worked was if you hit #1, you got +1 as well as if you defended, you also got +1.
you also had a number beside yourself of how many times defended on the ladder itself, which only counted the number of times you did defend consecutively.

e.g. http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=54454490&f=147&o=13160 (legen has that defended number beside him).
drogba beat legen here and got his +1 on the former champions list. he soon lost his #1 spot without ever defending so he never got a (defended Nx beside his name).

well I defended here vs. havoc before n I noticed the following update didn't show that =/
