its mostly done honorably. just coordinate a time with your opponent to play the ft10 within 5 days and then one of you report score. you can request gear check if you want, and if for some reason you dont want to trust your opponents in other regards, then you can request a 3rd party.
maybe if you are not familiar with the community or an individual it makes sense to gearcheck/ref for your peace of mind.
i personally have never bothered.

They had to check my charms in KOB at some point, people were wondering what I use 😂
