There was some discussion in another place on how Elo works so I wanna make it as easy as possible to understand.
If you win a duel you gain points. If you lose a duel you lose points. If you win a duel against someone worse than you then you donāt gain many points. If you win a duel against someone way better than you then you get a lot of points.
We make people do a set match of FT15 duels to eliminate as much RNG as possible from the final result. That way people with high Elo prove they are worthy of it and not just getting lucky RNG.
Hereās an example of what can happen.
ā¢ You have 1600 Elo. A 1500 Elo player challenges you.
ā¢ You win the first duel and gain +4 Elo. Itās not much because youāre way higher than them and were expected to win.
ā¢ They win the second duel. They gain +8 Elo. Itās more because theyāre dueling a higher ranked player.
ā¢ This goes back and forth for 25 duels and the final score of the match is 15 to 10.
ā¢ The updated Elo for each player at the end is 1590 and 1510 - even though the person who was 1600 won more duels, he gained less Elo for his wins because he was battling a lower ranked player and gained less for his wins. If the final score had been 15 to 8, the 1600 rated played would have gained Elo.
ā¢ This prevents high rated players from āfarmingā Elo from lower rated players, and makes higher rated players prove they are worth their Elo.
ā¢ It is uncommon to lose Elo for a set match win, but this is why it can happen. If you play other Elo games from CSGO to PokĆ©mon, youāve seen this happen there, too. Itās just the nature of the scoring system. You have to prove you are worthy of your Elo, period.
