gear change usually is only allowed if both players agree before the match starts.

Since there is no mention about it in this thread, I would tell u that from what we usually do, you can change gear :

1) If you and your opponent agree (try settling this issue before the duel starts, it's better)
2) Only after the duel is completed (not the match, the duel...), u just say "GEAR", go to town, change gear (don't make him wait more than 2-3 minutes) and that's it.
