Allow me to explain why this is not allowed.

You can have two characters on the ladder such as a trap assasin, and a elemental druid. Let's say you come across a ghost, you can move your trapper into position to beat the ghost, then challenge and take the spot of your druid, or move people out of the way with a win on one character that could beat your other character, and unfairly advance yourself on the ladder.

We could obviously make special rules to deal with this, but are not interested in making a single persons tournament experience more enjoyable while the rest of us have to work around it.

Not sure why you are questioning this but sure I'll explain it to you...
As per the previous update, You were #16, and #14 realized this is ladder not nl, and dropped.
He left the ladder making you #15. (Not #14 as your post suggested)
You then challenged #13 GamerReaper.
GamerReaper removed himself from this ladder. So you get his spot because you were challenged to him. Thus making you ahead of MoeTidus as he was #15 when this began.
