Idk if this is allowed, I would assume it is because it's a discussion thread.. but what is with all these PVP GM rules in tourneys? There are more rules than I have gear on a full acct.....?

I always thought gm rules were no mercs, no pre buffs from stash, no potions of any kind other than mana (if an es sorc only the mana pots in belt), no shrines, only 1 piece of absorb gear 20% max, and I think only 1 piece of -res like griffs or slotted infinity etc (faceted gear doesnt count)

Where did all these crazy rules about only this specific char can duel this specific char or druids can't run 99 fcr bp otherwise it's bm kind of stuff came from?

I understand making specific rules for a tourney but even the "general rules" seem to be over the top.

ISO opinions on this....... when why and who came up with this @*$&??!!??!!??!!

Anyone have any opinions on this? I'm just curious where these random rules that in certain instances make absolutely no sense, came from...?

point out a rule that you believe makes no sense so it can be discussed
I don't see anywhere that druids cant run 99 fcr or anything near close to that in any of the topics....

The specific char and 99 FCR Druid rules are non existent to my knowledge. Never have I seen anyone say 99 FCR Druid is BM; in fact, most people swear by 163 because of how slow 99 is in comparison.

Other rules are made just for relative balancing, AKA if they use BM skills you just leave and counter with something else, and that creates a cycle of unfun duels.

I believe Toeshank had this rule in his fpk tourny about no 99 dudus

As far as d2r goes i believe the d2 arena rules have been most widely accepted.

Generally i find the rules are just there to make for more competitive and fair dueling.

Basically rules are largely governed by who runs the tourny and the community behind it

This response is to you both.

When I originally made this post I didn't even know the "Legit Dueling" section was a thing and so I dove into to a bunch of people's pvp tournament postings and saw the exactly what I said amongst other what I would consider abnormal rules. I'm not going to QUOTE or link any and put people on blast when as the 2nd person said it could just be their individual rules but when I made this post the few things I listed I literally went back and made sure I wasn't misinformed by the rules or by what they were saying. I understand your point about the cycle of unfun duels. But what made me make this post is that this wasn't a one time thing, when I had looked this was easily half of the tournament posts I saw

I see, so I guess I'm gathering that they are tournament specific rules. Makes sense, it's just I saw so many rules in posts more often than I didn't. Like a laundry list of rules more than I had swappable gear on a full end game character

I'm just saying it's hard to keep track of specific rules. The rule lists are generally along the same two criteria (balance and unfun), and many people have their personal things about what is GM and what isn't. In the end, I would say as long as both people agree to it, it would be allowed in a casual setting. For example, I'm not gonna care if Poison Nec is considered BM, I'd dual against it if that was my opponent.

There’s no such thing is bm and gm rules are for people who aren’t good enough to play the game as it was intended.
