I’ve been browsing for public duel games, coming across quite a few on hellmode. Just full of people afk, every time. Super uneventful and not what I remember diablo being like back in my day. Disappointed, is it always like this?

Lack of testosterone IMO. These guys are just pussies. I was in a pub dueling game when this guy smited me down while I was bo'ing then proceeded to use full ruv, and a script which made him leave the game before he could die. Pussy ass shit. Nobody is GM anymore.
