First of all you need to choose a server. You can try out some servers and select the least laggy and most active server (there's a balance here). But you can also take consideration of what server most ppl @jsp (or other forums you are active at) are playing at.
Then you may choose a class. Burglar is much of a fun, and you don't have to kill as many mobs as other classes, plus it's one of the most powerful in 1vs1 or pvp. Other classes may also good too, but up to you.
Your first char's profession would better be Explorer, which can make you a lot more coins.
If you are on f2p, go to finish all the quests and then do a subscription for VIP and get as many quests as you can before cancelling the subscription. Your quests would remain on your list.
And.... If you choose to play on Eldar, I can provide you some nice items or golds.
