Hi guys. It's not as such a LLD question, but tbh ppl here have more knowledge than anywhere, so here goes:

I found a Heraldic Shield with 65%ed/121 ar but just 12 def = crude quality :wallbash:

Will it lose its auto-mods if I cube it with el/chipped gem formula, and will that formula even work?

Re rolling using any formula will reset automods.

regardless if the automods stay at 65-121 rolling to normal resets ilvl to 1. so it wont get 4 sockets i do not believe, it will get 2-3.

but as a crude quality it still has high enough ilvl to get 4 sockets. stylish base lol

ilvl1 auric shields cannot have 65-121 automod

Oki, I see. I gave it 4 socks and will keep as crude. Too bad.
