If you go into someone's profile, you can see their "last seen" time and "last post". Perhaps you should have checked that time before spilling the beans, so to speak. This is where we get to the bolded part in the first quote.
If you tried to keep it quiet, it would be quiet. Period. If you wanted it to be quiet, you wouldn't have said anything to anyone, but the pm to required/caley/honor himself. Obviously, you didn't want to keep it quiet.
