you broke the sheath while trying to baton wood? how the fuck?

lol broke the knife, bought a new one that came with a new kydex sheath that locks so fucking tightly that it takes both hands to remove it, the original one was a slip fit with a strap so I pitched the new kydex

im converting the broken blade in to an oyster knife

ok, that makes MUCH more sense.

my suggestion is to invest in a froe. far cheaper than a new kabar, and closer to axe steel than knife steel as well as heat treated more like an axe, so it'll take that kind of punishment much better.

got a much better mallet, works just fine now, my wood stove is literally made by the tiny wood stove company, so its just convenient to sit in a chair and be able to make small pieces with this setup.

I do love splitting wood, now the talk is more serial killer like right?

will it cut through bone? certainly

Dane axes get more of my personal respect with regards to handheld medieval weaponry than virtually anything else, including other similar polearms like halberds. The amount of damage they're capable of is absolutely astounding, even more so when you think they were being weilded by professional raiders from a very warfare heavy culture.

I still suggest a froe, btw. More cutting tools, man...more.

i currently have 3 axes, and 3 red ryders in my kitchen (i shoot the red ryders out the patio door from the kitchen into my small shooting box in the yard so the neighbors cant really tell what I'm doing, other than cans are randomly moving)

I do something similar, shoot a moderated pellet gun off my back patio into a carpet lined trap. It's solid fun for when I cant get to the range.

I really want to find some more of the older old hickory kitchen knioves to modify and use, seems like a really fun project. Right now I'm using a $20 commercial kitchen chef's knife (Mercer brand) and as long as I'm diligent about sharpening it it's good stuff.

They used to sell factory seconds of the butcher knives for 11ish bucks, idk if they still do, but even so the normal ones are $15 or less. I got half a dozen or so seconds and have chopped em up into various shapes, think I have one more left I haven't cut on yet. Plus the one in the kitchen. Since they have an upsweep on the spine into the butcher hump, they make a very good facsimile of a broke back seax. And they have a decent heat treat on their 1095, which is always a bonus.

Might raid the scrap bin at work at some point, I know we got some HY80/HY100 material up to 4" thick, could make my own axe head

red ryder is the best $50 investment I have ever made, so much fun, can shoot them practically anywhere (depending on the color of your skin), are far cheaper to shoot than a 22, and 350 ft/sec doesn't penetrate the skin that far
