1 hand/shield approach is for vs opponents whose attack is blockable, including ww, fury, zeal, kicksin, jab/lightning fury etc. Range 1 weapon such as battle hammer really isn't a good idea vs all these builds. Not to mention it's slow for zeal, which you would need vs zon and other charger/zealer.

Same, my Zeal vs all char benefited greatly from range 3 and range 5 weapons

esp vs sorc, nec and zon

range 1 bham was amazing for zeal vs zeal though.
