It Seems somewhat wrong that its better to advance as nr 8 then it is as nr 1??

Better is that 1 from 1-8 randomly duelling 1 from 9-16

then you could still have the scenario of 1 dueling vs 9 and 8 vs 16
the most logic way seems to let 1 duel vs 16, 2vs15 etc
