that's literally what the devs have said, when they designed it they thought of the IRL weapons with regard to speed. bows vs crossbows is just the most glaring example. bastard swords are another, less 1h dmg than most 1h swords, less 2h dmg than 2h swords, and speed inbetween both. but a flamberge is faster than a great sword, etc. the same concept was used for armor weight and frw malus, drawing from real battle.
Normally i dont trust game devs that are into meth while working.
