comparing the two

SSB:132 damage
AB: 125 damage + 20/15 (straight comparison) + 1bow + 15 dex (str requirements of SSB)
in a trade at the moment, i will calc the raw damage increase later.
re: that ashwood bow, its such a shame its only +bow and less then 140ed, but having said that, wow.

the easiest way to do this is a 24 maxer in both bows =
Ashwood = 38-111 (i.e. 149 damage) +16 damage.
Short Seige = 33-100 (i.e. 133 damage)

i.e. 5min 11 max + 1 skill + (being conservative) 9 dex
if memory serves, 1 dex = +3 screen damage and 1 skill = 17 screen damage, or (9x3+17) +44 screen damage || about +12 damage
which in laymans terns (ignoring dex affects min/max) transforms that ashwood bow (conservatively!) into:

40ias
38-123 damage
56 str requirement.

when you consider it can have +1 skills, 26 more ed and 2 more max damage, and i think poisen damage.. ? XD
UP's bow is 47-92 but with inherent -req i think and +2 skills instead of the +1 here

for some odd reason im getting a 24 maxer is better then a 20/15, is my math wrong?

Just looking at the bow damage itself

24max and 20/15 are identical on an ashwood bow. 24max is 0.2 average damage better on SSB.

165 ed is max ed on an lld rare and that is 2 prefixes in itself
merciless - 100 ed
knights - 65 ed, 100 ar

add mechanics (2 sockets) as the final 3rd prefix.

suffixes -
alacrity - 20 ias
slaughter - 20 max
and then either amp or 9 dex as third suffix ideally

imo, best possible affixes for most bow bases would be
prefix - 100 ed
prefix - 65 ed/100 ar
prefix - 2 sockets
suffix- 20 ias
suffix - 20 max
suffix - amp
add +2 bow staff mod for ashwood

an ashwood base with these 6 affixes would be -
42-96 dmg
+2 bow skills
165 ed
100 ar
2 sockets
20 ias
20 max
amplify dmg

now imo, ideal jewel for a rare ashwood would be 18 max 9 dex -15 req
final dmg on ashwood bow w/ ideal jewel would be 42-114 w/ +2 bow skills, 40 ias (shael), -15 req, 9 dex, and amp

for zon w/ bow, 1 dex = 1% overall ed. (i also equate 1 max = 1 dex = 1 ed% as well for most cases, but this ultimately depends on how much overall ed% the zon has)
this means, 1 bow skill adds 5% overall ed or 5 dex equivalent. gear/skill/dex ed% effects all dmg added from inv/gear/weapon.

to calculate a weapon's damage, take the base weapon and multiply both min and max by whatever ed percentage (*2.65 for 165% ed) and then truncate the decimal. then simply add any flat damage from affixes.

hopefully some of this info is useful to tweaking your zons. there's also a great damage calculator on a german site which i'm sure most are aware of.

one more thing, don't disrespect the -mana per ga from bowa skills!

if your using a "realms" rare ashwood bow then you might as well consider factoring having corresponding rings, amu and circ with str as an affix, i.e. the need for a -req jewel dissappears in favour of a higher str boots requirement (because i str bug).

Base 20, + 12 from Circ + 9 from amulet, +18 from rings and +2 invent, i.e. 61 str.
in general, your dont need insane damage, but it helps vs difficult opponents / classes

the raw damage from +b&c in itself is insane, and the -mana per ga, at 30, was not overlooked above, i was merely highlighting the damage side of things. (we all run out of mana)
