Here's some more. Not as good but still nice.

As nice as the nec head is, it would be truly godly if it spawned on a Demon Head because the -30% Requirements would actually be useful. Generally though, I prefer Unraveller Heads to the other base types, although technically Gargoyle Heads are the best.

Type / Str / Dex

Unraveller / 18 / 72
Gargoyle / 20 / 69
Demon / 25 / 67

If you use a demon head, you invest 7 points of strength to save 5 points in Dex over an Unraveller Head. With a gargoyle head, you can put two points in strength to save three points in dex. But since there aren't any 5 strength jewels at level 18, you're basically going to be wasting points anyway.

A demon head is better if you use 4 str / 6 dex jewels, although I personally think it would be a waste to do so. Assuming you have the perfect wand to put them in, you are still 2 strength points short of being able to equip a demon head. You can either invest the 2 points of Str that you need to equip the head (but then you're basically wasting the two points that you saved over using a Gargoyle Head, which would only require 5 str from two jewels). Or you can put a 2 str / 6 dex jewel in the shield. I generally prefer Eth runes though.

At some point, your mana pool will be big enough that you won't really need to worry about mana regen too much (unless you want to mana pot like JIT and all the other noobs). But I don't like to get the strength I need to equip an item from the item itself -- I'm not sure if you would even be able to pick up your corpse that way. So ultimately, the Gargoyle Head still comes out on top. Although if you go the jewel route, a 2 socket Unraveller beats a 1 socket Gargoyle. A 2 socket Gargoyle is probably the ideal, assuming you could get one with 4 spear / 30/20 blocking.

The one nice thing about Plague Emblem's -30% reqs is that I can equip it with base strength, so my heaviest item becomes my Cow King Boots (18 str). Fortunately, starcreaft gave me a 3 str / 6 dex jewel, so I think it would be the best choice to socket in the shield. Unless someone can shop me a 4 spear / 10 fcr / 2 socket wand sometime soon.

Edit: A final option would be to use a 6 dex / -15% reqs jewel in a Demon Head. Although the question then becomes whether it is worth wasting a rare+useful jewel to make up for a slight inefficiency in the base shield. Although to be perfectly honest, it's pretty much a stupid calculation. Even if you save 1 or 2 stat points, that translates into 2 or 4 life.

Yeah I added in an edit -- I might have a 6 dex / -15 reqs jewel somewhere, although honestly, it still doesn't really make sense to socket such a jewel in a Demon Head, unless it's got some crazy mods on it. Although the 19 mana is definitely nice.

To me, it doesn't even make sense to use 4 str / 6 dex jewels in a Nec wand. You get the same results by using a 2 str/6 dex jewel and a 3 str/6 dex jewel and a Gargoyle Head. Then again, not too many casters at 18 that could use those jewels. Probably ideal for either a Fissure Druid or an 18 sorc of some sort.

One day I'll post up some of the 18 nec items that I've accumulated. I just have too many screenshots to hassle with. That first screenshot is what the guy who sold it to me used, which is why it has an Eld rune in it.

Did you buy your nec head from mynameiswhat? He had a nice 30/20 3spear demon head as well.

Edit: And again, I should clarify -- I've never bothered with stat jewels on my necro. Until I can find the perfect gear, it seems pointless. The different between an Unraveller Head and a Demon Head is 4 life. Big deal.
