I’m already proud of you for not ordering a shitty Cutco knife. the Ikon line actually feels good in my hand, nice ergonomics for my tiny hands. I think the knives are pretty decent. I am a bit biased towards Japanese knives, but German knives are used in professional kitchens as well, and Wusthof is one of them. You did well dude

for fun, next time someone tries to sell you a cutco, ask them what type of steel they are and ask them to explain the difference in steels

I believe its something like 440A, a cheap high carbon stainless steel

440A is cheaper to produce than say 440C, which has a higher carbon content, hence higher hardenability, better edge retention, etc. Also, cutco is a stamped product vs a forged knife.

They sell cause they are cheap, and people don't hold on to things anymore. I sharpen my knives quite regularly, yet I hardly know anyone my age that still does this. I even talked to a friend who said he just pitches his knives when they get dull and buys new ones......
