Because ele and magic dmg chars in general take a big hit of their damage %wise with mdr at 18.

As for the armor, assuming you face 5mdr per europe rules and you get average rolls on cold light and fire dmg from gear. Assume your bowa does 100-650dmg excluding ele dmg, 50% crit or so, thats maybe a 5-8% average reduction in your damage.

Now obviously if you get a low roll, dont crit or your opponent has more mdr that will be even bigger.

Cals done in my head with a fair bit of rounding but you get the idea. Easy to avoid by just using a 60max breast plate or similar.

The anya bug fix is the true killer of ele chars

I dont know anyone at 18 who didnt have max fire and light res even before anya fix. Fissure, lightning bolt and light kickers were just too common to avoid max res.

It did save some chars from using res scs over mana ones though. Or maybe 15max 30res jewels instead of 20max.

Hehe a lot of 18s never even bothered changing gear after the fix.

stacking more of a specific type of ele damage would help offset that though right? By having a higher top end ele damage, you hit higher rolls on average and are less likely to hit low enough to get your damage reduced

When i played ages ago with Badguts it mattered, because gear was harder to come by. A lot of people running around the moor with like 40 res in tvts. Good time to be a lvl 18 fireball/cold sorc. Now it is much easier to build a char due to mf botters/dupes i guess.
