Well historically rare jewels have been scant, so much so that even finding 3 complimentary jewels for a robo was hard. so people chose to put the more expensive jewels into something like a lifer plate or akod. the logic checks out. a Robo is a white item with 2-4 shael runes, which devalues the jewels more than a lifer plate filled with all high quality jewels. so people would 24 max or 20-15 a robo, which is actually closer in dmg than you might expect on the output.
today it seems people can get a duped jewel with ed/max/dex/reqs/res/etc for the same price that a 24 maxer used to cost. pre-mass bots 24 maxers were like mid range currency, plain 15 lifers were even still in use on NL on many chars. I used to sell sets of 40x when ladder rerolled with ease.
it was common for a time, iirc, for 4 shael robos for 8/9fpa setups. i always hated them, but some people really preferred them. Imagine filling the last slot with a 500 fg rare jewel, some people did. always seemed like a waste to me unless you need the reqs. rare bows were essentially non-existent and almost none were up to a robo's dmg output, unless u had a PP bow like runedart, which at the time was considered BM in zvz circles.
So no1 gotcha.
