half of the images of the engine look like this, but what is this piece of metal here?


mine looks like this



i have a vacuum leak on the right hole that i have an arrow pointed to..

Any thoughts or ideas? im stumped. but i know when i plug that hole my idle is so much smoother

Perhaps my egr valve is stuck open??

It idles poorly


Mine doesn't have that tubing and all of that stuff

I'm not missing any parts it's just how it's made..(pic 2)

But is the egr valve Inside that right hole? Rook here

Some plymouth engine doesnt have it, fill that hole with dumdum or get a new intake

Well... Naturally aspirated engines always run in vacuum on the intake side due to science. The hole is in the intake manifold.

I'd be pretty worried if there wasn't a suction to be honest.

as to a fix, get a similar sized self tapper and run the bitch in there with some high temp silicone, gorilla glue, plastic weld, whatever and call it a day.

I understand why it's sucking in

But I don't understand why that design is even there / what it is (pic 2)

Why would they put a spot for a hole if im supposed to close it

For emissions youre not suppose to close it. Previous owner must have just removed it and not plugged it
