Debating buying the predator tuner for my 09 srt8.

I am honestly clueless as to the benefits. People just keep telling me it will increase my throttle response and possibly help power/economy a bit.

Im noob, but one thing i notice is off the line it seems a little sluggish that first .5 secs. Even if i rev it high and dump the clutch, which im not a huge fan of.

Is it worth the investment? Pros/cons? Also worried about it messing up warranty. Just started a fresh 3 year/60km warranty

just doing a little digging for you.

Our products do not cause damage to a vehicle when used as intended in accordance with the User Manual and should not void your vehicle's manufacturer's warranty. However, the reality is that many dealerships have been known to improperly void warranties on vehicles that use aftermarket products as a matter of policy.

also found this on a srt8 fourm: So, I have my Predator installed with the 91 CAI Tune, Fan mods, and tranny tweeks. I also only run Chevron gas and I have a catch can installed. Yet on hot days I am clearly either getting "knock" or "false knock" that is obviously killing the fun! I have not done any data logging yet. This has happened at least twice since installing the Predator.

I understand that lots of people are having these issues with their SRT8s, and I am curious why Diablo has not addressed this by de-tuning their "canned" tunes? Do I need to head for a custom tune? Or should I be able to fix things myself by doing data logs and adding some fuel to the mix?

I really don't look forward to having to race around town at WOT to do logs and test different fuel settings. I live in the middle of a city, not a corn field!

So how are you guys addressing these issues? I guess I could just drive slow on hot days... that came from this site: http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85878

Thx bud. I have done a fair bit of digging. What interests me most is the ability to change shift points and throttle response. I have no issue shifting, but the fastest 0-100 ive managed to pull is 5.68 and stock sheet says it should do 5.5 stock. The sluggishness in 1st is what bothers me most

Really no reason to tune these 6.1's at all with simple bolt ons.

If you throw on some longtubes (lol enjoy that install) or heads, cam, intake manifold then go ahead and get some professional tuning done to match up with the parts. But if you are sticking to collector back exhaust and a cold air intake, leave the stock maps in place. These don't run high enough compression to really warrant the use of 89 or higher octane in factory form. The 6.4 is a little different story but that's beside the point.

Just whatever you do, don't add a n2o system without some internal work. The pistons and rings in stock form do NOT like spray at all. They will burn through quickly.

On another note. The 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4L chrysler motors really do not flow well and because of their design have a really high torque curve compared to the LS/LT blocks from GM and 5.0 from ford. They really make good power in the last 1500rpm but under that, are kind of doggy. Don't forget, these cars weigh a fucking ton as well. You've got a good 700lbs on a vette

Mine is the 6 speed standard, it specifies minimum 91 octane?? Or so the manual says

Everything is stock on the car except the exhaust is aftermarket, i think the guy before me had glass packs put in along with a new x style exhaust. (Sorry for the noobish lingo). I will upload a picture or 2 this weekend to confirm the exhaust isnt stock as i am not sure.

Id like to stick with the cai, as ive read nothing but good reviews on reliability standpoints.

I appreciate input like this. Knowledgable, informative but not arrogant.

Sorry, Thought these were 9.6:1 for some reason. 10.3:1 is borderline for 87 octane in my opinion. This does depend on a billion other factors but I do see that they are recommending 91 as well.

I'll bet my left nut that if the previous owner installed glasspacks he didn't touch the headers. They are an expensive install on these cars. They rank right up there with mustangs and vettes as far as ease of getting them in... You'll be fine on the stock mapping and see no real noticeable gains out of a programmer for those mods.

I don't know a ton about the 6.1L but am familiar with the cars.
