I have an old 02 Subaru Legacy gt limited with 100k on it and I'm worried it will rust out before the engine gives. Both rear wheel wells, as usual. + both rear door jams have holes in them, one side is really bad.

I've done a bit of research but looking for more input and opinions. Is it worth it to sand down, clean up and bondo it? Maybe fiberglass? I think it's too much for fiberglass. Can't really afford welding in new sheet metal

Pictures?

If you want a structural fix, which being a unibody, this would require welding.

Chances are, if you just gob bondo, foam, or kitty hair fiberglass in there the rust will only continue. Two of those three products are hydroscopic, so they will retain water, and actually assist in rusting the car faster. But it may look better - temporarily.

If you aren't going to cut out the rust and weld in patch panels, you're wasting your resources.

Don't know anything about POR 15 as recommended above, it may be really good stuff. Personally I've used MarHyde One Step as my rust to primer spray after sanding down as much of the rust to bare metal....

As for body filler- All metal.

Just drive it until you can't, if you can't weld in new panels don't bother. I'm from atlantic canada the rust here is just as bad if not probably worse. Drive train usually outlasts the body's on vehicles here.
