The lemons rules require you to prove or convince the tech inspectors that you have $500 or less in the car minus safety features (cage, fire suppression, brakes, fuel system, etc.) The safety requirements are quite expensive.

Do they still destroy the winning/cheater cars?
No

We want to buy one that has already competed or is ready to compete. Their cage requirements alone will cost $1500+ to install in a blank canvas type car. It's much easier to just buy one done and resell it when we are finished with it. There are around 30 for sale on racingjunk and we are looking at a few. You never know what other people will stumble across though.
You'll be happy to know one of the shit boxes we are looking at is a 300zx.

Did you happen to head over to the 24/h lemons forum?
They have a separate cars for sale tab, which some are race ready.
Ya willing to go wankel? multi race winning 1980 rx7 available around $3500. Is in PA.
Most of the cars for sale on the lemons forum are $500 "mod ready" cars. People don't like posting finished cars on there for $5k knowing that the buyer will have a hard time explaining away the other $4500 lol. I'm not against rotary but they might be. I'll have to ask.
