Myself a 3 buddies are going to run the 24hrs of lemons race at road atlanta in december. I need your help looking for completed cars that are ready to race or nearly ready to race. There are quite a few on racingjunk but you guys may run across something local.

We'd like to keep it at $5k or less

The closer it is to South Carolina the better

Prefer front engine Rwd

Prefer manual

I'll be sure to post pictures as we go. It should be a lot of fun.

Did you happen to head over to the 24/h lemons forum?

By "ready to race" do you mean all required safety features already installed? That would be hard to find.

They have a separate cars for sale tab, which some are race ready.

Ya willing to go wankel? multi race winning 1980 rx7 available around $3500. Is in PA.

The lemons rules require you to prove or convince the tech inspectors that you have $500 or less in the car minus safety features (cage, fire suppression, brakes, fuel system, etc.) The safety requirements are quite expensive.

No

We want to buy one that has already competed or is ready to compete. Their cage requirements alone will cost $1500+ to install in a blank canvas type car. It's much easier to just buy one done and resell it when we are finished with it. There are around 30 for sale on racingjunk and we are looking at a few. You never know what other people will stumble across though.

You'll be happy to know one of the shit boxes we are looking at is a 300zx.

Most of the cars for sale on the lemons forum are $500 "mod ready" cars. People don't like posting finished cars on there for $5k knowing that the buyer will have a hard time explaining away the other $4500 lol. I'm not against rotary but they might be. I'll have to ask.

That's unforunate. I thought it was cool that they destroyed the cheaters and winners. Are they at least disqualified from re-entering?

That makes sense I knew it was expensive to put all the safety equipment like cage and fuel cutoff, just wasn't sure what your plans were. That's why I tried to post cars that you could easily sell the interior and shit out of to lower the value.

And I'll be 100% honest, if the VG can make it through the whole race, you will be pleasantly surprised. Especially if it's a slicktop, but that's doubtful.

None of these cars get pushed 100% for the full 12hrs. They are much stricter on passing tech now than they used to be. If you bullshit them on the $500 deal enough they won't let you race at all. They also have a BS factor that they add time to your overall based on how bad they think you are lying.
