I have a couple sets of R14's for my current car which is R14. Are there any general rules as to how close the size dimensions have to be to my old tires (the ones I'm currently using) in order for them to fit nice and snug on my rims? Or can the garage just stretch any size as long as its R14?

Any help is appreciated boys, thanks.

width and sidewall height can change still.

the big number if the width of the tire tread and the small number if the sidewall height

My question is can the width and sidewall measurements be off by a bit and the tire still fit the rim?

Or does the xxx/xx have to be exactly the same despite both being R14's

You are limited by the size that will clear the fenders on the car and by the width of the rim.
