What do you guys think about lucas as an additive to your oil? I'm thinking of trying some in my mustang (87 5.0 HO) because it has a lot miles and I beat on it and it knocks almost like a spark knock under real stress (4k+ on 7k red line tach). I plan on tearing it down this winter anyway so will it do any harm?

Oil additives in general are a bad idea. The oil already has the proper additive package. Those things are a band aid at best.

It's a decent bandaid at least, we put it in a 1 million Detroit Diesel(never rebuilt) and gained 10 psi oil pressure... My Dad ended up taking the truck to 1.5 mill before he finally sold the thing.

Pressure is a measure of restriction, not flow, in a fluid system. If an additive raises the viscosity of the oil and the oil pressure sensor is placed before the bearings in the circuit it will show a higher pressure while the bearings are actually seeing less oil.

OP if you do some reading you will find most of these additives are pure snake oil. A few have some beneficial qualities depending on what you are trying to do. The multi billion dollar oil companies have plenty of money set forth for R&D. Go to Bobistheoilguy.com, it's all right there.
