is forney a good brand of Welders?

I been using a Miller Mig welder at the shop and I'm thinking about getting a welder for the house bc we can't bring stuff to work on in the shop anymore

Will I notice a huge difference? I don't feel like throwing out Miller or Lincoln kind of money

Never even heard of it.
I'd stick with a well known brand.

You will never regret getting a Miller, Hobart, or Lincoln; It is possible to regret others.

If you are a proficient welder you can get by on even the Harbor Freight garbage. So a lot of it depends on how you well you weld.

Personally I'd steer clear, but that's because I also have not heard of that brand. I'm sure you can get it to lay a bead though.

Miller and Hobart are similar. Pretty sure they have become one company after Illinois Tool Works acquired both of them. How much actual difference there is (I suppose) depends on the model.

Hobart's HQs used to be minutes from me in Troy, Ohio.

hobart and miller are farther off than youd think. while a hobart would get it done, thats about the lowest on the totem pole i would go.

id rather buy a used miller/lincoln than a new hobart or other

could it lay down a bead? sure but so could 2 batterys tied together and a welding rod.

That's true. Miller is more industrial while Hobart is more for home/garage project use....if that's fair. Not comparing models, I do wonder if some have become more similar recently, as for new ones.

Miller has always made welders for home use.

Pretty much the same setup, just a lower duty cycle.

It's really apples to oranges though. Hobart is kind of like a fat girl. Sure you can bust a nut but meh...

Lincoln for Arc, Miller for mig and tig.
