I'm at 67,000 miles in my Elantra. I know auto transmission, brake, coolant and power steering fluid all need to be changed right about now, but I just had 2 auto shops tell me they were in good shape. Is that typical? How important is it to keep them clean and changed?

Unless they have been contaminated theres not point really in doing such. Especially changing trans fluid might actually create problems as the new oil will clean all the shit and you might end up with problems or so ive been told often

if 67k is the mileage on the car then he needs to change the tranny fluid and filter now before it does get bad. same with coolant especially dex cool because it sludges up over time. ps and brake just check and add as needed unless it looks bad.

Ive never done it on my old car. I had to refill tranny fluid once at like 240 000 kms because 1 of the line broke and lost all my fluid

as long as you dont change the filter the new fluid wont hurt an older one too much. if i knew his vehicle had high miles and the trans had never been flushed and new filter then i would agree to not fuck with it. i PLAN on staying on top of that shit with my wifes new car. it will be paid off in full a few months before my oldest daughter turns 16 so what my wife and i discussed was her getting that car and ill buy my wife another brand new one. we will have probably 1-2 years after that one is paid off before our youngest turns 16.
