For the price you're getting a car with performance and technology similar to comparably priced models from Mercedes, Audi, BMW etc. Reliability isn't the best, they're very pricey to fix, and if you don't live in California or the East Coast (Boston to Washington) charging stations are tough to come by.

You're not getting a bad car for the price (in fact you're getting an awesome car), but with options that are basically necessary like the bigger battery and faster charger that price is like $100k. There's a lot of cars you can buy for that much, the Model S isn't necessarily the best car in that range.

And there's nothing performance about a car when you run out of gas lol. If you floor the Model S every time you drive it sure it drains the battery fast, but most people aren't going to do that.

And there are gas stations on every corner.

I think they build good cars but the cost of buy in right now and lack of service and support (charging stations) is an issue. It's still too early. They are working on expanding the service stations and charging stations to accommodate the new model. They want to start selling volume which means they have to make it easy for the average person. I think in 3-4 years it will be much more feasible.

Yes but that wasn't the point, hence why I mentioned the charging issues in my original post. You're not going to run out of juice if you floor the Tesla for 30 minutes (the bigger battery has a range between 450-500 KM). Even someone who daily drives a Lamborghini to work every day isn't driving it to max potential all the time (or even most of the time).

I don't think he was framing that statement in a daily driver type situation. What if you wanted to take a trip through the rocky mountains canyon carving? If you leave the radius of your home base area you are fucked. In a gas vehicle I can get on I-20 in Florence, SC and drive like Fast and Furious 1,535mi to Kent, Texas. I would never have to worry about running out of fuel even if I was only getting 100mi to a tank. You can't do that in a Tesla. Yet.
