I'm 24 y.o never had any 2 wheeled toy of this nature. I want to get something I can commute to work with, and take off road. From what I've gathered I should be looking for a 250cc-350cc bike, im not even sure what make/model to look into. I have 3 grand at max I could spend on one of these.

I'm 5' 11" and weigh around 175. Can someone give me some makes/models to look into? Thanks!

you can look for an older xr250r or xr650r. They're pretty bulletproof

If you don't have to hit high speeds a Honda 230 would be good, easy to ride and learn on. Keep in mind if you get more serious about riding in the dirt it would be better to have a dirt specific bike. A 350 cc bike won't be happening for that budget, also set aside some $$ for repairs, and make sure you buy all the protective gear.
