for under 300 just use the ones they provide at gokarting. zamp, g-force, race quip those all suck, they are junk

and maybe take a few track days off and save for a real helmet

if you dont have to have a sa2015 rating, you can find some close outs on the sa2010 stuff, and get a decent helmet for less.

but if you cant afford 300-400 $ for a helmet, then you cant afford to race

For karting on rental karts a plane old HJC will be more than enough. A neckbrace is more important than the helmet imo. For trackdays... Shoei, Arai, Simpson etc are where it's at. Don't get caught up in ratings. DOT means nothing. Snell isn't the end all be all either. Many studies now show the shell impact qualifications of a Snell rating can actually get you hurt because the shell transfers too much energy to the head.

Fuck renting a helmet. I don't want little Billy's head lice. You might as well let every stranger you see sit in your face if you are willing to do that.

You should never limit yourself on safety equipment.

I agree, if you can't afford a proper helmet, then you can't afford to race.

And +1 on Simpson. I'm a fan.

Bell has a few 2010 helmets and I think 1 2015 for around 300.

Go check winecountrymotorsports.com or saferacer.com

Depends on who's running the track event. If it's scca they won't let you run without SA.
