By Ramp i meant trailer.

So im saving up for a tow vehicle, and still deciding if i want an open trailer or enclosed. The car will weigh around 2600 lbs with me in it. For those in california the truck must be able to tow everything up and down the grapvine (Hills sections) without problem.

Not biased between diesel and gas, but just want a simple truck that doesn't have many potential issues. And a decent mpg would be nice

cool. The only concern i have with open trailers is theft, even though the car has a kill switch and removable steering wheel.

Remove or diconnect something very simple and quick to prevent the car from starting. Just removing the battery cable is enough most likely. Car theives are 99% of the time stupid people but not stupid enough to try and fix a car before stealing it lol.
Having an enclosed trailer is likely to stop less criminals imo. Thats like saying because a locks on your house it wont get broken in to. If someone wants it, they will take it.

This. It doesn't matter what you have, if they want it bad enough they will take it.

I would spend the extra money for an enclosed trailer. It's just easier all around. IF you have a secure place to keep the trailer when not in use you can keep tools and parts in it as well if it's big enough.

Also, any half ton truck out there with a v8 will be able to pull that weight around without an issue. 10k isn't enough for a reliable diesel in my opinion so I would stray away from those at that price range.
