So, try to keep this short.

I'm building a truck for a guy that I know half-ass. I used to work with him on the railroad and we've stayed in touch here and there. Truck is a single wheel 1 ton ram. (2015 if it matters)

Aside from the small performance parts (should be 500ish to the wheel) it has an 8" bds long arm kit and 17x11 wheels. He wants to run a Bias ply 38/40" tire to save money over buying a radial.

What's y'alls honest opinion on this? I personally haven't but i've also heard that people do. It's a mixed review from what i've heard.

I'll give my full opinion and the reasoning after a few comments so I don't sway people one way or another.

Dude drives a practically new 2015 1 ton Ram and he wants to save $$ by running cheap-ass ply tires.

I'm with KoJ. In addition, I'd punch your dumb friend really hard in the neck.

Imo ply tires are great for trail trucks.. Buy some swampers..

A 2015 with money already invested, tell him not to be a fuck stick and buy some radials.. And if he doesn't, run a 1/4 inch drill into the sidewall.. Like butter.

lol I'm glad we are all in agreement.

Bias ply's on a trail truck? Sure, I understand why but even radials have come so far now that it's a toss up there too.

We sat down last night and talked about them. He runs through a set of tires about once a year on his current truck (same thing, just 2010) and he's out about 600 bucks a year more buying radials.

Anybody that has run a bias ply tire already knows what im going to say but. We live in Houston. Hot as fuck. What happens to a bias ply sitting under an 8k+ truck when it's 110 and the sun beating on it? They flat spot. Second, you can't balance a bias ply. I dont give a fuck what anyone says. Balance it, drive it around the block, it's unbalanced again. Lastly, Bias ply's on the highway are pretty well known to assist in dodge's famous death wobble. Granted his steering components are being upgraded to accommodate for that.... on a radial.

After my convincing talk last night, we ordered a set of 38" irok bias plys.... :wallbash: His truck, not mine.

i actually didn't know they still made bias ply tires

We had some on a old chevy c10 mud truck me and a buddy bought for like 200 bucks that kinda ran, them tires actually fell apart and didn't even look that old when we got it had like chunks fall off the inside wall of tire, wouldn't truck on my road truck
