They've been running the stock long block up to 800-850whp in the cobras for years. It's a hand built, forged internals engine from the factory. With the better tuning that is out there now there is no surprise they are making one live at a touch over 1000hp in a lightened car that mainly sees track time.

There are some inconsistencies here though.

1: If it's lightened to 3500lbs as it appears to be that trap speed of 148 shows it was only making 900hp on that pass.

2: A 1200hp fox body would not get pulled that hard by a 900hp Cobra in gear with traction.

So my conclusion is like most street cars, they wicked it up on the dyno for a hero power number and dialed the boost back to a level they feel it would live on the street and track. The dishonest ones don't tell you they turned it down. Hellion has been twin turboing these for years and they found the limit of the factory long block is right around 900hp.

If that fox made a real 1200hp and was dialed in it should run 7.90's@170+mph.

TL;DR

The video shows two cars making 3/4 of the power they claim or less.

Almost the same trap speed but in the 1/8th mile out of a stock cast piston production line engine is far more impressive to me. The Ford boys need to step their game up. The E.T. and MPH here calculates out to right at 1200whp. I'm not sure what class he was running so I don't know how heavy the car is. I used a 2900lb race weight for it.

03-04 cobras were forged internals from the factory and trust me people are making this power on stock blocks. it may not last for super long but yes they are doing it.

Yes, meaning block and heads. Have you seen a modular ford engine? It's a giant hunk of 90 degree V8 iron. The weak link is the rods and cast pistons. The 03/04 cobra engine has a forged rotating assembly. That addresses the weaknesses.
