Before starting, I want you guys to know that my knowledge is limited about quads and these kinds of motors
I have this 1985 Yamaha Tri-Z 250 that was at my cottage and I decided to bring it at my house to try and get it to work. It is in really good condition. We had two of them and the one I have right now, we practicly never used it.
Last time I tried to start it, I noticed somethig was wrong with the clutch.
If I put it in neutral, I can push it around (obv)
If I put it in gear and pull the clutch, I can't push it around (seems like it stays in gear and does not release)
If I follow the gear cable all the way to the " gear box ", I can see that the cable pulls the mechanism down there. From the handle to the motor, the cable is obviously not snapped.
What can be wrong ? Is it possible that the cable is broken inside ? Last year, some fuckers tried to steal it from my garage at my cottage and they pushed it on 30 yards and left it there (While it was in gear because I could see the tracks from dragging/pushing it in the grass LOL). Is it possible that something fucked up inside from them doing that ? I used to start it by pulling it and dropping it in gear when kickstarting wouldnt do the job.
Anyways, I might post a video if you guys want to see what I'm talking about. I would really like to fix it and ride it
Thanks
Well if its rolling in neutral you probably don't have anything seized up. If you can see that the cable is pulling that lever on the case then the cable isn't broken (doesn't mean it isnt worn though, but that wouldn't cause your problem unless the cable isn't pulling that lever far enough to engage the clutches). My guess is your clutches are probably just worn out. Try adjusting the clutch cable a bit and see if its not just too loose.
