Friend of mind has a Lexus with sensors in the tires and got a light on. I looked at it and it has a big bolt in the rear driver side. I've plugged many tires before with ease. That was my first thought wit this but I don't want to interfere with the sensor. Not to mention the light that's on. Is this something I can do or does it need to be taken to a shop?

You can plug them the same way as any other tire. The sensor on these things are on the edge of the rim. After you plug it fill up the tire to recommended pressure drive for a few miles that should reset the tpms.

Once you plug it and fill it up it should be fine like Charlie murphy said

My front right sensor is fucked right now, shows 1 psi lol.
Fortunately they are pretty cheap at like 25 bucks on rockauto plus whatever to have it installed

the TPMS is ONLY near the valve stem, as long as you dont fuck with anywhere near there treat it like a normal tire.

Almost all tpms sensors are a part of the valve stem, some brands such as ford and subaru have a tpms sensor on a band around the wheel which is 180 degrees opposite of the valve stem.

well it's actually connected to the valve stem but you wouldnt know unless you actually dismounted the tire, i mean if youre looking at the tire from the outside point of view, i'd say "close to" just to be safe.

Not always.

In most domestic cars they are screwed onto the inside of the valve stem (Inside the wheel)

Some have rings around the inside of the wheel, some aftermarket wheels even have two valve stems (one with sensor on the inside of the rim and one on the outside to fill with air)

90% of all tpms systems are screwed onto the valve stem on the inside. but i do know there are bands.

Lexus (toyota basically) uses the valve stem type of TPMS

ive broken enough off the damn valve stems to know this for sure lol...

tire monitors are great for the customers and all but i hate dealing with them in the job setting lol.
but as said multiple times, you can plug it fine.
