I'm getting 40+ mpg in my beetle tdi, and that's with a 3"lift and oversized a/t tires. Was getting almost 50mpg when it was lowered, but I have mods that help my mileage too.

As for reliability, 385,000 miles on the original motor and still going strong. :)

Found 2x Jetta TDI 2010

One has 189 000 and he want 7K for it

the other looks to be in better shape and he wants 7K, but has 225K

might try to knock some off, would be decent

maintenance records dude.. check when the timing/water pump was last done, egr/intake clean outs, fuel and glow plug services, stuff like that
consider the one that has the better motor and well scheduled services, over little things like exterior/interior flaws :)

keep in mind diesel is 1$ more per gallon, so a civic getting 40-45 mpg may be cheaper than a tdi getting 45-50 in the longer run.
my civic gets 40+ as well as my fiat 500
