Alright, so been wanting a descent jeep yj for a while and found one for a descent price in the area. Being the older model it has the 4.2l i6 carbed. The problem? It was previously smogged with its stock carb/reg and it currently has an aftermarket carb ( holleys not sure which model ).
So, with that in mind the seller tried to sell it to me within the 90 day period here in ca where you are not required to get a new smog cert to transfer the title, we missed that date by about 2 weeks.
In your experience, how much am i looking to spend if i take responsibility for the jeep to get it to pass smog? Checked out the cat and it looks rather new ~2-3 years old, and the records showed that the jeep passed smog the last two times without problems. I am not a mechanic nor am i very mechanic savvy,. Would swapping out the carbs be a pretty easy fix? Or if it isnt, should I just forget about it and keep looking for something that passes. Sellers asking 3700, jeep ran fine has a lot of aftermarket mods, very well done fabrication and the interior/exterior is in great shape. new wheels/tires including spare.
Main concern is I am getting it and going to get screwed in trying to get it to pass smog, i want something street legal for weekend trips etc. but dont mind spending a few 100's if that'll cover it.
