I just bought a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport XJ.

It's completely stock, and I'd like to put a 2" lift on it and some all terrain tires.

What I have chosen for the lift:
2" Spacers (front) with shackles (rear)

I was told to stay away from "Add-a-leafs" and to not rely on a 2" lift utilizing only a new set of shocks, and that the spacers with shackles are a much more firm method of lifting the Jeep.

What I have chosen for a rim:

I want to get all terrain tires. I'm planning to be able to drive in the winter, jump into some mild mud, hit a pot hole and laugh, etc.
I was recommended Firestone Destination A/T Tires and told with the 2" lift I should be able to support 31" tires. The site says that the lift only supports 30" tires. Trust site, or trust shop?
What tires should I get if the Firestones are overpriced?

Lastly: with a 2" lift, do I need to worry about brake lines or any of that shabbang? Was told that a 3.5" lift definitely requires new brake lines in order to reach and a bunch of other conversion issues that I really don't want to deal with.

What do you really want to do with the truck?

I'm the resident 4x4 guy

If u have aim/man I can help you, much easier than the back and forth over a few days

What is more important, traction and ride comfort on the roads or extra traction when off road? If only going offroad on rare occasions, I recommend the Pirelli Scorpion a/t.

Pirelli for ATs? Why would you recommend those?
I've never ran into someone running Pirellis for a purpose vehicle, especially off road.. Imho Pirellis are overrated and moderately priced...


If you want ATs, either do BF Goodrich A/T Ko2 for something a little more aggressive, or the Michelin LTX M/S or A/T2

If you want mudding tires, Goodyear Wranger M/Ts, they are a lot more expensive, iirc around 180-200 ea, but they are completely worth it... Also check out the Toyo M/Ts

And if you want just M/Ts with no road care you want to get Super Swampers SX

Just general all terrain driving. Thing doesn't have cruise control so I'm not really planning to take it on the highway or anything.

So update:

Bought THIS lift kit, instead of that 2" shackle/spacer kit above: http://www.jeep4x4center.com/rubicon-express-2-standard-suspension-lift-kit-with-twin-tube-shocks-rub-re6165.html

Has plates, shocks (since I know I'd have to buy new ones any damn how within a few months), and a brake line extension.

I also decided to go with the recommended Firestone Destination A/T tires, but I got them in 31 x 10.5 R15 LT which will fit nicely on the 8" rim. Just a slight bit of bow, but I'm sure it'll look great.

The current tires and rims are gonna get junked so I decided to go play a bit.



One hell of a difference compared to a lowered STi. Man oh man do I enjoy looking at rough muddy roads and saying "Fugg it, let's go!" Brings peace in mind.

thats not a lift kit, thats 100% garbage in a box


those shocks are junk.
you wasted 300$


you need to do a lot more reading or else your going to end up with a pile of shit.
