glad to see them take a step back and shed some weight, seems like all the manufactures are getting fatter and fatter with all the regulations and whatnot

Hopefully it'll entice others to shed some weight on their current models as well

edit: and no this is not april fools lol

yeah and the current model mustang is getting fat. a vert gt with some options weighs damn near 4k lbs. Shedding that weight would put it right around the weight of my 13 Base GT

The 1LE should be pretty fucking beastly shedding weight though. It was already spanking a lot of competitors in the price range

GM is unveiling the 6th gen from the inside out. Some of the pictures posted on their site are pretty cool. One of the last ones showed the reinforced composite control arms... they are pulling out all of the stops for a car in this price range. Rumored 460hp, 3600lbs... it should be killer.

The days of 3200lb 400hp cars are gone since everyone wants heated leather seats and premium sound with their luxury car interior. You may see a special package for the 6th gen that will get it down in the 35xxlb range. As he said considering the current 1LE was hurting all kinds of feelings at 3800lbs it should continue the trend and build on it.

Man it's nuts that 3500#s is a LIGHT car by today's standards.

Meanwhile, I'm shooting for sub 2000.

I better not crash though, as they'll just have to bury the car as my coffin.

Haha yeah...

The 4th gen F-bodies i mess with are 3400-3500 stock. They weren't the least bit concerned with weight savings and still came in there. They also don't have a reinforcement bar in the passenger door, the rear quarters are the only metal body panels and they hold the rear subframe together, they have 2 air bags, 17" wheels, small brakes, and playskool plastic interior.

The current stuff is 1000x nicer and only weighs a couple hundred lbs more. I wish they would offer a stripper model though. They haven't done that since the 4th gen. Base v8 with cloth seats, manual windows, basic sound system, etc... a 3350lb 6th gen with 460hp would be tits. High 11's all day and sports car killer handling...

So wouldn't it make the V6 3500lbs and the V8 3700lbs?
Assuming that 200lb weight drop is for all models

It's still a GM product so you know it'll fall apart quickly.

wonder if Ford is ever gonna do an aluminum frame mustang. Kind of curious to see how heavy the gt350 comes in at also. Or the next gt500 for that matter
