Hi, I went to get an alignment done yesterday and I had something pointed out to me so I couldn't.
01 Silverado 1500 4wd

First I was quoted about 220$ in parts and 180$ in labor.
Me being cheap and also wanting to learn a little bit I'd like to attempt this myself. I can get all the parts I need for <100$

They lifted the trucks wheels off the ground and you could grab the wheel and move it a LOT in all directions.
They said the wheel bearing was F****D and needed to be replaced before they could align it, along with a pitman arm.

These are both on the driver side, I believe the rest was fine.
I'm a total noob when it comes to mechanic work but when I looked on youtube this actually looks pretty darn simple. I own a small jack, stands, ratchet, sockets, pry bar etc so I got all I need it looks like as well.

One thing im not sure on though, what parts exactly do I need to order? How many splines are on my pitman arm, it should be 3 or 4.

I'm looking at these 2 items at the moment.

yes 5.3
it's off rockauto.com which has cheaper prices then any place I know of for parts
ive used them before as well as family members

they have more expensive ones but the cheaper ones are like 60$
the pitman arms are like 12$ thats the 3 or 4 splines

/ you can't post links from there I dont think, just go on there and search for the part, it's the cheapest one, like 52$ and some change

Don't buy the cheapest suspension and wear parts you can find. You will be right back in there doing it again. Your links are broken in the first post. Buy Moog or better quality.

Just did both of these last week.
the hub is easy if you got s nice mini sledge.

The Pittman was a bitch to seperate off the steering rack. But with a big hammer and a pickle fork she came out.
Next is to take the nut off. ( I used a 12 inch adjustable wrench and a big long power bar, was np) then you take the 3 bolts out that hold the gear box in place. Alot of people also took the steering shaft off the gear box. I didn't have to. Once the box was free I could get the Pittman puller on there and pop that bitch off. Make sure the steering wheel is locked and take notes of the position of the old Pittman Arm. Fasten gear box to frame, install new Pittman and nut, attach arm to steering rack .

You will need a nice heavy mini sledge, a pickle fork and a Pittman Arm puller. About $100 in tools if you don't have, but last forever. ( or borrow)

Hope this helps ya. Should be a nice little day project for you. YouTube is great otherwise

I just got done replacing the wheel hub assembly, idler arm and pitman arm. I gotta say it was a piece of cake for sure, and I've never done a single thing to a vehicle.
Never even changed my oil or a tire.
I hope to learn a lot more though, my dad has a ton of knowledge and tools so that's a good start. ( I did it without his help though )

I seen videos on youtube where people had to beat the hell out of the hub to get it off, along with the cap on it.
I've also see where people have taken out the steering box to remove the pitman arm.

All of it for me was a breeze, the trucks like new under there so nothing was rusted or seized. I grabbed the hub and pulled it off with one hand np.
I bought all the tools I didn't have like the pitman arm puller, pickle fork etc and it was a breeze.

I know this is very easy work to start with esp. for a decent mechanic but I'm proud of myself. :P
The truck had a hell of a wobble that rattled the whole interior, now it's smooth as butter at 70. I plan to do the other side this summer, although it seems okay.
