I plan on doing whatever I decide on my days off next week
Sorry for this long thread btw lol..

Okay so I can't decide so I will ask the wise people of this subforum..Vehicle is a 01 Silverado, 99k miles, I plan on keeping the truck for a long time, it runs great and it still has a lot of life.

-I have a couple small rust spots on my rocker panels, one on the drivers side under the rear door very bottom, this will be cut and welded, and one on either side of the bed behind the wheel, this part is minor, no pitting or anything. Both will be done professionally.
I decided on a really really great local shop, they said to fix and repaint it will be 325$, just fixing the rust will be 225$

I can't decide if I should just fix and repaint or have it fixed and then herculiner the rockers up to the body line that goes across the middle of the door etc.
I don't plan on going off road but I figured this would be a great time to herculiner the bottom, then I wont need mud flaps or fender flares.

Can I apply herculiner in the cold in like 50 degree weather?

I don't like flares because salt sits behind it, so I took mine off at least for now...if I decide to just repaint and fix I will likely switch to only mud flaps.

Also Im aware the herculiner will fade.

~Second part
How should I go about doing an undercoating and what should I use? I wanna do this so it doesn't rust inside out.
I see zero body rust under the truck
I was thinking POR15 then bedliner over that on the underside?

Thanks in advance :)

POR15 by itself is fine. I'd paint the exterior personally. I've never been a fan of putting bedliner anywhere but the bed.

After painting a motorcycle in bedliner, id recommend against it. The effort involved to get it looking uniform and nonoffensive greatly outweighs the potential result in my opinion. Instead, you're looking for some sort of 'chip guard.' Those are textured rubberized coatings that are designed to be painted or top coated. Most in aerosol form..You caaan paint hurculiner, but I've found it can be fickle.

Por 15 is great, but if your prep isnt top notch, don't expect it to last. As far as rust encapsulating paints, I prefer Hammerite, its got glass beads, or some glass technology that certainly seems to hold up to the test of time and elements. Much less demanding to work with as well. Its a pretty damn hard finish.

You definitely don't want to spray any coatings in less than 60 degrees. Especially rubberized products, you'll be waiting a while.

Okay thats 2 votes for just painting lol

Can anyone suggest some good mudflaps? All i really see are the small factory ones and ugly ass husky liner ones..Id prefer 100 or less

I'll look into the Hammerite paint

Would the body shop add chip guard stuff into the paint? What should I ask them exactly? Thanks

Chip resistance for a 2 stage painted surface would depend on the clear coat. What clear they use, and how many coats etc. Andy could probably give you more specifics but most shops around here use PPG or Sherwin Williams. They each have different clears for different tasks.

Thanks a bunch
I'll prolly do this and just slap on some mud flaps then as long as they don't charge me out the ass to add chip resistance.

Could you suggest mud flaps please? :)
Ive looked on ebae amazon summit carid and a few other places
The ones for my truck are ugly lol
