never thought id say someone would be happy with how their wreck turned out. guy only broke his arm. to put this in perspective he was going to carmeuse lime (where i load at) and he works for the austin powder company. hes the dude that brings in the ammonium nitrate and fuel oil explosives and yes he was loaded. it happened at 8:30am this morning and the road is going to be closed until tomorrow. we had a lot of ice this morning and that road is really curvy with no guard rail blocking you from the creek.

...given what he was hauling, I take it that it could have wound up "giant freakin' fireball" in short order, yes?

Glad it wasn't worse.

After the AN oxidized all of the fuel oil it wouldn't even be a lasting fireball. It would be a gigantic shockwave from an air blast explosion that would have vaporized everything in range. Diesel+AN was what was reported to have been used in the oklahoma city bombing. The other end of the plant I work at produces it as a byproduct. They have mountains of it inside a warehouse where it gets dumped of conveyors into never ending piles. It is an extremely efficient oxidizer. They use it in tannerite.

This guy was very, very luck. He only broke his arm when the cab was crushed and on top of that the packaging worked correctly and his load didn't explode. Crazy.

We used to use it at the sand mine for blasting the high wall.

Nasty shit for sure. However, these trucks are built very very heavy. We had one roll off a 70 foot high wall at the mine and it never even dented the storage compartments in. It crinkled the outer aluminum shell but that was it.

It should be built like that. The shit sold out of our plant site is hauled like any other dry bulk. It's fertilizer, but it's also an extreme oxidizer. It's a bit crazy to me that it is hauled like that because each one of those trucks is carrying at least 250 gallons of diesel and then 45klbs of AN.

It would have mixed well with the fireworks.
