A while back i posted about my car, there was quite a bit of interest, figured id post back with a little update on The Crusty Carlo

as always this car is a big work in progress, cage is actually finished thats a in progress pic of it, have been beating the streets with it, about 70 miles on the whole settup, 2 long drives.

Built a 496ci bigblock, with aluminum heads, around 650 hp
new th400 w/ trans break, 5800 stall converter
new ford 9'' 3.89 gears w/ full spool
new 3.5'' steel drive shaft
10pt roll cage
adjustable upper and lower control arms
factory dash/seats/carpet with b&m pro stick

Runs on 93 octane... its a street car that just happens to go about 6.50 1/8 mile

3" exhaust to knock off magnaflow mufflers

My car on the left, my buddy matt's on the right

Why such a high stall on a big block? What do you turn it to?

i kinda fell into the converter, its fairly tame and doesn't heat up, so far i just don't have enough of a reason to swap to a lower stall

maybe once i buy the gear vendors ill go to a 38-4500 stall

You should calculate your converter slip. A 650bhp 496 is pretty damn mild. It is probably making peak torque around 3600rpm. I bet your slip ratio is crazy. You are probably losing all kinds of MPH from that converter.

The powerband on this motor is absurd, it always makes torque, FTI had exact specs on the car, and told me to run it, it doesn't flash that high, but thats what matt said it was when he gave it to me, and as far as killing mph, its a 1/8 mile car, I shouldn't even use 3rd when i make a 1/8 mile pass.

and truth be told, i have a 200$ cut&clean in this 1700$ converter, so i wasn't complaining

What tire do you run?
How much does the car weigh (race weight)
I know you said you close the 8th in 2nd gear but what mph & RPM?

That stall is insanely high for an n/a big block. I would imagine a 3800 stall would do wonders for you.

+1

It has a solid roller small block stall in it atm it seems. He could get the one he has re-stalled pretty cheap.

I asked about it, would never be consistent enough to bracket race on the trans break is what i was told, they wanted to give me a swap but i dont really have the $ for a new converter atm.

Cars around 3,000 lbs

Its got a 28''x10.5 on a 15 now, thinking about going to a taller tire though

I just put this whole deal together this past month, trans and converter were from a sponsor, but again, your right i could use a tighter converter.

Ended up breaking the trans, whoever built it b4 i got it milled the drum .010 too much wich allowed a clutch to slip under the drum and cause 3rd and reverse not to engage.

Trans is fixed, back in the car with a new b&m pro stick gated shifter for the track, new nitto 555s coming soon and 2 new go pros for some bad ass street / strip videos!!
