The company i work for makes a product called Dyneema that is perfect for rope. It is stronger, lighter, and more abrasion resistant than kevlar.
Andy is probably familiar with it. They use it in high performance sail boat rigging and large ship mooring lines.
AHHHH!!!
Yeah, spectra and dyneema are my jam.
The loads that sailboats undergo is absolutely incredible. My Moth is only 11' long...Yet, it has thousands of pounds of force acting upon the rig, at any given moment. Especially upon a crash at over 30mph.
It'd had no problem towing, or dragging sideways for that matter, whatever you threw at it.
When you have to start splicing these lines together, instead of tying them, you know shit is serious.
The only stuff stronger is 100% carbon fiber rigging. But, that's only used on gigantic custom race boats and other sleds. Hardly a justifiable cost for smaller boats, when polyethylene type lines, like these, will easily do the job at a slightly less price.
It's not cheap. It's just
cheaperYou should see the looks I get when I go to help someone who is in a ditch during this lovely season. Only to pull them out, with ease, with a single piece of 3/8" spectra. Their expression while I am hooking everything up, watching the line....Honestly, that's a large contributing factor to me stopping in the first place. Absolutely priceless.
