I will be obtaining a 6.9 idi with a zf5 here soon. Was reading on some forums and just trying to get as much information about the transmission and motor as i possibly can. Would love for some people like KOJ FMX and JDH to chime in. Never owned a diesel before and figured might as well learn now

Knew i shoulda posted that and inb4 in my first post. Thx for the chuckle. Plan is to put the motor/zf5 into a 73-78 f250. gotta make a xmember and fab a new transmission tunnel. gonna drive this for a year or so before i do though. Really love trucks but never owned a 4x4/diesel. Never had the money or the need for either till now.

how does one learn unless they get their hands dirty? anyone who knows me on here knows i love my old ford trucks. I know a ton about old gas fords from 48-79

The old idi doesn't have a lot of the problems the modern common rail di diesels do. I haven't messed with idi stuff at all. Is yours N/A or turbo? The old N/A idi's were noisy as all hell and had really high compression ratios.

no turbo. I read it will blow headgaskets because of the stock gasket and studs, if you are shitty to it. Im after the zf5. i liked my old 78 f250 np435 for around town but highway...fuck....my...life....
